Autumn Term Update 2010
Dear Parents/Carers,
May I take this opportunity to extend to you all a warm ‘welcome back’ as our new and action packed term begins!
First of all, I do hope that you have all had a good summer break. It certainly has been lovely to see all those smiling faces back with us and raring to go. Some of the students even said that they had missed us over those never-ending weeks!!
Good news: GCSE results
Our Year 11 students received their examination results on Tuesday August 24th and it was a wonderful occasion as we celebrated our best results ever. As you can see from the graphs below, our results have climbed year on year. Congratulations to Jay-Cee Court
Huge congratulations to one of our former Ladybridge High School students. Jay-Cee Court left us in 2008 and has since completed her A levels. We are absolutely delighted that Jay-Cee has actually scored the highest A level result nationally for Philosophy.
On the first day of our new term, Jay-Cee brought her little brother to start in Year 7 and to share her good news with her former teachers. This is what she said:
‘What am I to say? Walking back through those automatic doors it seems almost laughable at how nervous I was on my first day at ‘Ladybridge High School’ , then ‘The Deane‘. My little brother , older of the two, was brimming with the same excitement that had once filled me on his first ever day.
Soon I shall be off to University and with me I shall be taking some of the top grades in the country , such as the outstanding 99 marks out of 100 on my Philosophy exam or even the 95 out of 100 on my Psychology exam. I have never been more filled with this sense of nervous excitement. I say this now with the daunting prospect of living 200 miles away though, maybe in another 7 years time I will deem this to be yet another tiny step in the grand scheme of life.
I was insistent that I wanted to go to ’Ladybridge High School’, not because I had friends there , as only one other girl from my school went, but because of the friendly atmosphere that surrounded me when I was first shown the school. Though Ladybridge was extremely academic, the calm atmosphere promoted a relaxed feeling which made learning fun and a pleasure, resulting in the fact that not one of my GCSE’s was below a B!
Under the careful guidance of Ms D’Arcy and her fantastic team, I have seen the school go from strength to strength as it continues to climb the ladder of academic achievement. I am confident that my little brothe will discover the same thirst for knowledge that I unearthed at Ladybridge and that he too will be just as happy, safe and confident as I was that first frightful day. ‘
What a tribute to Ladybridge! Enjoy University life, Jay-Cee. You deserve your success and we are all very proud of you.
A quick reminder of our priorities for this academic year
As you know, we are determined to become a truly outstanding school and to build on our successes from Ofsted December 2009. With this in mind, our key priorities are to ensure that every single child achieves the best learning outcomes possible by:
- increasing the percentage of students who gain 5+ A*-C including English and Mathematics and by continuing to remain well above the national average for our general 5+ A*-C measure.
- ensuring that all our Gifted and Talented students achieve A/A* at GCSE
- creating a range of ways of motivating learning through enjoyment
- developing innovative use of ICT and New Technologies
- ensuring that every child achieves a target of a minimum 95% attendance over the school year.
- helping parents to support their children in the learning process
Parents have a huge role in helping the school on its journey to excellence. With this is mind, we have a number of workshops running this year designed to help you to help your child with his/her studies. All are welcome….I am sure that the harder we all work together, the faster we will achieve!
The Peak Performance Manual
Every child has his/her own PPM which is a fabulous planning and reference tool. Please make sure that you sign it each week and please use it to communicate with staff using the ‘Notes’ section should you need to.
